Somatic-Based Massage Therapy
What is somatic-based massage therapy?
It incorporates the mind, body, and spirit into therapeutic healing work
It aims to treat the effect of PTSD through a mind-body connection through a body-centric approach
It comes from an understanding of the body's physiological process, and lived consciousness
It helps refine perceptual, kinesthetic, proprioceptive, and interoceptive awareness to promote homeostasis, neuroplasticity, and sympathetic/parasympathetic regulation
It helps to recognize habitual patterns of perception, posture, and movement
All while promoting resiliency and recovery
Somatic-Based Massage Therapy can help the client find a reconnection between the mind and body that has been lost through trauma, injury, or loss. It can be deeply powerful work, helping the body to orient itself slowly towards a state of resiliency and recovery.
I myself have been living with chronic pain since 2014. As I got closer to recovering from my physical pain, what I noticed was that the emotional aspects of healing cannot be ignored, and are for some (ie. myself) just as big of a part of their healing journey and their life as the physical injury itself. Invisible pain is as real as physical pain, and emotional anguish can get "tied up" in the fascia and tissues and needs to be released all the same. I go for craniosacral, and visceral treatments for these issues, try to exercise regularly, and have recently tried reiki with great success.
